Cleaning Rod Iron

If there are rust stains but no flakes dip a very fine steel wool pad into kerosene and brush out the stains.

First fill your bucket with about a gallon of hot water and then mix it with about cup of dishwashing detergent. Dip a clean sponge or cloth into your reserved bucket of water. Rinse the wrought iron. Soak a towel in the solution ring it out and then use it to scrub down your wrought iron balusters and railing.

A teaspoon of the soap mixed with the water should suffice. If you leave them on then the part under them will not get cleaned and you will not finish the job correctly. Scrub hard enough to remove any rust flakes but be careful not to scratch the paint unless the rust is so bad that the furniture needs repainting. Fill a small bucket up with 2 parts water and 1 part white distilled vinegar.

Start by scrubbing the rust lightly with a wire brush. There are several different ways to give wrought iron a deep cleaning but one of the safest and most effective methods is to use diluted vinegar. Move a garden hose near the wrought iron you wish to clean or move the wrought near a garden hose. Wrought iron surfaces can be quite dusty so begin by using a vacuum with a brush attachment to remove as much of the loose dust and grime as you can.

If neither is an option fill a second bucket with plain water to use for rinsing. Instead use very hot water and a mild non abrasive sponge to clean the pan after each use. Scrub the wrought iron with a dry wire brush. Cleaning wrought iron 1 create a mixture of liquid castile soap or any other vegetable based soap in a bowl.

Now use a brush or cloth to clean your iron door thoroughly. Step 3 fill a large bucket with water and add three squirts of mild dish soap like ivory or dawn. Wipe the wrought iron again to rinse off the cleaning solution and dirt. Doing any of these things can ruin its natural seasoning.

Routine cleaning of wrought iron is really not much different than cleaning any household surface. This will remove any loose or flaking rust. Use dishwashing soap after cleaning off the dirt you will need to wash your wrought iron door using dishwashing soap water. You may use any spray bottle or bucket to fill with soap water.

Use a mild mixture of water and dish soap to clean all surfaces. Go over the wrought iron with a dry paintbrush to remove any tiny rust flakes or dirt.
